Tulum plans for rapid expansion as a leading draw for tourists in Mexico

Four major Quintana Roo tourism infrastructure projects will benefit Mexico’s central tourist sector, from Cancun to the Riviera Maya through Tulum.

Four significant tourism construction projects that will improve the flow of passengers inQuintana Roo are expected to benefit Mexico’s central tourist pole, which extends from Cancun to theRiviera Maya and ends in Tulum.

Tulum is undergoing a massive development given that it has been named by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) as one of the best cities in the world to visit or perhaps call home. The Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve protects nine habitats and is home to a number of endangered species. It has been designated aUNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the city’s top attractions.

Prior to its current name, Tulum was originally called Zamá. In Mayan, the name means morning or rebirth and refers to the city’s orientation toward the east, where the sun rises and brightens every corner. According toTravel Pulse, after being discovered in ruins by modern explorers in the 19th century, it was given the Mayan name Tulum, which means “wall” in English.

Quintana Roo has seen significant growth in innovative mobility over the past few years, luring in new people and investors eager to fuel this region’s progress.

Diego Castaón, the newly elected municipal president who took over for the deceased Marciano Dzul, faces the task of ensuring the healthy and harmonious growth of hotels in the vicinity, notes the outlet. Prior to 2018, the new mayor served as Tulum’s director of tourism promotion and held the position of municipal government treasurer during Dzul’s brief term in office.

Tulum has easy access to the highway and is close to Cancun’s international airport. Additionally, it was recently revealed that Tulum airport will soon begin development, giving travelers even more accessibility.

The Mayan Train is another federal initiative that extends a prior 900-kilometer plan to include Quintana Roo, Chiapas, and Tabasco. Currently, the design phase spans 1,500 kilometers and includes Campeche and Yucatán, which will improve mobility for locals and visitors and present an opportunity to grow the region’s construction sector.

The state’s tourism industry and foreign investment are centered in cities likeCancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. Data from the Ministry of Economy show that during 2019 alone, investment increased by 50 percent.

Business owners, digital nomads, and developers with an eye toward sustainability are drawn to Tulum by the city’s allure of a laid-back, environmentally conscious way of life.

Tulum, Quintana Roo, will welcome the Mayaliah Tulum Hotel & Residences – MGallery, a luxury hotel and residential community. This high-end development plans to change the local housing market with its eco-friendly design, extensive wellness offerings, and individualized customer care.

Located two kilometers from the town center and the beach and five kilometers from the archaeological zone, this development is a collaboration between Inmobilia, a renowned real estate business in southernMexico, and Accor, a hotel brand with more than 5,200 locations in 110 countries.

It was recently reported that the “Cocoon Hotel & Resort” project in Tulum would be constructed by the multinational company DNA Barcelona Architects. This is a brand-new eco-resort in Selva Zamá, a neighborhood of the Aldea Zamá community, which is growing and consists of residences, condos, hotels, beach clubs, and other amenities.

Additionally, Gestmadrid Asset Management Spain recently completed a hotel in Tulum. Apex Capital has formed a joint venture to construct 20 hotels in the city, which is a popular vacation spot for investors this year. Pak’te, a member of the Apex Capital network of construction companies, will be in charge of the projects to build these accommodations on the Mexican coast.

The construction, which is expected to take five years, will start in the first quarter of 2023. Until the 20 openings are finished, the establishments—managed by worldwide hotel chains with existing locations in the Caribbean—will be opened as they are finished.

These developments will be built on a one million square meter hotel plot that is situated in a key area, close to other ongoing projects including the Four Seasons, JW Marriott, and Azulik.
