Opening this week, The Capella Sydney incorporates Aboriginal art, cuisine, design, and wellness treatments.

Contrary to popular belief, kangaroos and koalas aren’t the only things to entice people to travel to Sydney. The beaches, deserts, mountains and delicious cuisine represent the famous Aussie lifestyle and hospitality. There are several reasons to put a trip to Australia on your travel list, including a new luxury hotel.

Australia’s newest luxury accommodations, The Capella Sydney, is bridging the best of Sydney’s tourism offerings with its Indigenous culture. While you could visit the city and see nothing representative of its Indigenous roots, The Capella Sydney is celebrating them. Slated to open March 15, the Capella will boast 192 rooms and sits in the Sandstone Precinct, just minutes from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. According to Travel & Leisure, the location of the hotel has cultural significance.

The Sandstone Precinct was “originally inhabited by the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, who were the First Australian custodians of the land,” said Travel and Leisure. The continent is home to 500 Indigenous groups or “nations.” The nations include the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that are collectively recognized as members of the First Nations. The outlet shared that Capella Sydney is the first Capella Hotels and Resorts property located outside of Asia.

The hotel’s main building was once the headquarters of the New South Wales Department of Education and was later the Department of Agriculture. The design and offerings of the hotel were intensely guided by Aboriginal collaborators.

The Aboriginal culture is evident in the location’s “Living Room.” The Living Room is a Capella staple, with a guest lounge, bar and receiving area. Travel & Leisure states the Living Room at Capella Sydney presents the “Echoes of Eternity” spotlight every evening. Guests can enjoy narration by esteemed locals that tell the tales of the locals. Native mixologists and sommeliers will provide drink specials using locally sourced ingredients.

The walls along the hotel hold over 1,500 pieces of art completed by local and native artists.

Capella Sydney has three drinking and dining options. The Brasserie 1930, McRae Bar, and Aperture are open for guests and locals.

The Auriga Spa is exclusive to guests at the Capella Sydney. The spa offers services that are in alignment with full and new moons. It also offers spa treatments rooted in Indigenous knowledge. The “Connect to Country” package uses gathered Australian stones plus a clapping stick ritual to realign the body, mind, and spirit.

Capella Sydney opens on March 15. Rooms start at $750 a night. To get more information on the beautiful location and to book your stay, visit www.capellahotels.com.
