The Southwest Companion Pass is currently on sale for a limited time, and qualifying passengers can receive one for free until April 5.
Grab your favorite traveling companion and load up your luggage. Southwest Airlines is once again offering its Companion Pass promotion, which entitles qualified passengers to a complimentary companion flight.
Members of its frequent flyer program mustregister for the promotion and buy a Southwest flight (either one round-trip flight or two one-way flights) between 8 a.m. CDT on April 3 and 11:50 p.m. CDT on April 5, according to a news release. Travel must be completed by May 24 in order to use the purchased flight. Flights that have already been purchased do not count.
The Southwest member’s account will be credited with a Companion Pass on August 15, and they will be able to assign it to a person who can fly with them on an unlimited number of flights between August 15 and September 30.USA Today notes that this pass is valid for travel with the Southwest member between the dates of August 15 and September 30.
The designated guest can accompany the pass holder on any flight purchased at no additional cost. Taxes and fees for a one-way ticket start at $5.60, so the companion still must cover those costs. Participants can switch their designated travel companion up to three times during the promotion.
“We’re continuously looking for opportunities to appreciate our Rapid Rewards Members, especially with this unique way to earn the coveted Companion Pass,” Jonathan Clarkson, vice president of marketing at Southwest, shared in astatement. “It’s a great way for them to experience the value and many perks of our award-winning loyalty program, as well as our legendary hospitality.”
Companion passes are typically granted to passengers after they have accrued 135,000 Companion Pass Qualifying Points or after they have flown 100 flights that qualify for the pass.
