Considering an HBCU? DETOUR talks to several HBCU Black graduates about the HBCU experiences and all of the reasons to attend an HBCU!

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been havens of higher learning for Black people in the United States since the mid-1800s. Alumni of HBCU include Black authors, scientists, politicians, activists, entertainers and more.

And if you’re thinking of joining their ranks DETOUR might have answers to some of your burning questions: We approached Black HBCU graduates with a simple question: “Why choose an HBCU?”

Some said it’s about Black pride and even Black essence. Others remembered peer support and the friendly atmosphere on campus. But no matter what reasons they stated, proud HBCU alumni, who gathered at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium to support their alma maters thought you should not hesitate and apply to an HBCU!
