The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya has over 143 rooms on a property inspired by constellations and ancient Mayan artistic manifestations.

The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya, perfectly blends luxury and nature. St. Regis is the latest brand to open a resort on the packed coastline of Mexico’s Riviera Maya. The Kanai Resort opened its doors on March 15, proving they are different from the others.

St. Regis brought their signature touches of class and quality to the new property. They provided guests with an aesthetically pleasing location while embracing the natural beauty of its forested surroundings.

Travel and Leisure shared that the private resort sits on 680 acres of land within a gated community. It is just ten minutes from downtown Playa del Carmen and next door to the Sian Ka’an Reserve nature reserve.

Designed by Mexico’s Edmonds International design firm, the hotel’s design is inspired by both constellations and ancient Mayan artistic and ceremonial manifestations. When guests step out on their balcony (which every room has), gazing at the constellations won’t be too hard because the Kanai sits on top of one of the island’s mangrove forests.

George Fleck, VP and Global Brand Leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, toldTravel + Leisure the thought process behind the brand choosing the location.

“When determining the ideal location to expand the brand, our goal was to discover the best new address in Mexico, and we found that in the undiscovered glamor of Kanai. We have the opportunity to define the region and put Kanai on the map for our luminaries.”

Interior touches are decorated to pay homage to the region’s Mayan roots.

The resort has 124 guestrooms and 19 suites. The outlet shares that guests can pick from six types of rooms, and each has access to the St. Regis Signature Butler Service. The luxury options extend to suites with private plunge pools from the standard double-bed suites.

The property has eight bars and restaurants that intentionally blend local flavors with global culinary traditions. TORO by Chef Richard Sandoval offers a Latin-inspired menu and Chaya combines Eastern Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine.

The Library serves the signature St. Regis afternoon tea. St. Regis Bar serves handcrafted beverages exclusive to the location, like the “Kanai Mary.” A local take on the classic bloody Mary.

While the resort has multiple pools and wellness centers, they prefer you to exercise outside. During the hotel’s construction, the outlet states that wildflowers and jasmine seeds were planted across the landscape, making walks around the property intoxicating. Guests have access to powdery-white sand beaches and private cabanas.
