Airbnb celebrated its one million Superhosts milestone by listing the most hospitable destinations. Did your fave make the cut?

Arguably one of the best and most important parts of any vacation, staycation or weekend getaway is lodging. Whether you’re staying in a ritzy hotel or a small cabin off the beaten path of a mainstream city, the place you call home during a trip can make or break your experience. Airbnb has become a popular alternative to hotels for vacationers in recent years, as its home rentals help to give visitors a more localized feel in the city they choose to visit.

The company, which has listings in more than 200 countries and territories and represents more than 45 languages, offers a variety of homestays – ranging from modest to unique– to accommodate every vibe. 2023 has already started off as a major year for the company, as it recently announced they’ve hit a milestone of 1 million Superhosts.

To be classified as a Superhost is a high honor for folks who choose to host on the platform, with only 41 percent of hosts earning this distinction. To be eligible, hosts have to maintain an overall rating of 4.8 or higher, have hosted at least 10 stays in the past year and respond to 90 percent of new-booking-related messages within a 24-hour time span. Airbnb maintains that “becoming a Superhost requires dedication, consistency and a commitment to excellence,” which produces a top-tier hospitality experience for guests.

In honor of the milestone, Airbnb released a list of the top five most hospitable countries. The United States made the list coming in at number 2, with 34 percent Superhosts. Korea, the United Kingdom and Canada follow behind in third, fourth and fifth, while Puerto Rico takes the top spot with 41 percent Superhosts. The company also noted the top five most hospitable cities in the United States. Four out of the 5 cities listed are located in the South, which lives up its “Southern hospitality” reputation.
